The Crisis that Wasn’t: Where’s All the Oil?

Comments Off

Naturally, the New York Times isn’t about to surrender their Chicken Little membership card without a struggle. Give them credit where it’s due, though: for once they were honest enough to report that the problem is now less than anticipated:

Reporters flying over the area Sunday spotted only a few patches of sheen and an occasional streak of thicker oil, and radar images taken since then suggest that these few remaining patches are quickly breaking down in the warm surface waters of the Gulf.

Evaporation, storms, and natural dispersion effects (and human cleanup efforts) are doing what they’ve done in the past: reducing the concentration of the oil, sometimes to microscopic size, where it’s consumed as food by microbes. So, once again, the sky hasn’t fallen.

Yet CBS, the New York Times, and other major media outlets are doing what they can to keep us terrified. (They never let a crisis go to waste, either.) They’re using the well-practiced environmentalist tactic: warning of possible impending doom by relying on uncertainty:

Will Washington’s Failures Lead To Second American Revolution?

Comments Off

Bill Clinton lowered the culture, moral tone and strength of the nation — and left America vulnerable to attack. When it came, George W. Bush stood up for America, albeit sometimes clumsily.

Barack Obama, however, has pulled off the ultimate switcheroo: He’s diminishing America from within — so far, successfully.

What Would Saul Alinsky Do?

Comments Off

Of course, shrewd Alinskyites like Obama will always have a plausible excuse for their deceitful tactics. In this case, they are alleging newly discovered facts. Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said he intends to reimpose the drilling moratorium based on information that wasn’t “fully developed” in May, when the six-month moratorium was imposed. Quite convenient.

America’s House of Cards

Comments Off

The Cloward-Piven strategy, the bible for liberal progressives, teaches that to undermine the system one need only do one thing: Overwhelm the system. The radicals who occupy the White House, students of Alinsky, are all-too-familiar with the methods that will bring this country to its knees and allow for a remake or “transformation” to an ideal society that will finally be acceptable to their brethren.

Why is Ken Salazar hiding memo on new monuments, wilderness areas?

Comments Off

The congressmen have seven pages from the memo, including pages 15 – 21, which list the 14 potential new monuments and costs associated with the project, but the members have no way of knowing what else was in the memo or how many pages it totalled.

“Since the President and his Cabinet have routinely stated that transparency is among the administration’s highest priorities, fulfilling this document request should have been no problem. In fact, the president has gone so far as to call transparency the ‘touchstone’ of his presidency. With the DOI’s latest failure to complete this document request, I would hardly say Secretary Salazar is living up to the president’s standards,” said Bishop.

“The DOI must be forthcoming with the information we have requested, and if there is nothing to hide as they claim, then why the delay? Sadly, this is what we have come to expect from the DOI, and frankly, the American people deserve better.

Grassley works to establish facts behind claim that GM repaid its TARP loan

Comments Off

“The bottom line is that the repayment was made on the dime of taxpayers across America, and it’s misleading to say that GM repaid its TARP loans ‘in full, with interest, ahead of schedule, because more customers are buying’ GM cars,” Grassley said. “Taxpayers remain on the hook, thanks to the failed deal cut by the government to try to save GM from bankruptcy. Now, GM has pulled an additional $6.6 billion out of the escrow account but has left unpaid a $2.5 billion, nine-percent loan to the union health benefit fund.”

Once again: What is socialism?

Comments Off

News reporters, editorialists, academics, and liberal-progressive politicians generally deny that the Obama administration is socialistic. Socialism, they say, is a political state in which the government owns the means of production and distribution of goods and services. Because some businesses still are privately owned, ipso facto, ours is not a socialistic government.

That definition is confuted by the earliest theoretical writings on socialism. In France, Henri de Saint-Simon, in the first decades of the 1800s, and his pupil and colleague Auguste Comte, in the 1820s and 30s, along with Robert Owen contemporaneously in England, stated that the essential feature of what Owen called socialism is government regulation of the means of production and distribution.

Equally important is regulation of banking and education. When the government controls the volume of money and its economic applications, it has the economy in a stranglehold. When government controls education so that nothing other than secular socialism may be taught, as Saint-Simon advocated, it controls the future destiny of a nation.

Not until the advent of the Soviet Union after the 1917 Communist Revolution did the idea become general that socialism meant government seizing ownership of the economy. Experience in 19th and 20th century France, England, and Germany, however, made it clear that regulatory control by government bureaucrats is sufficient to implement socialism.

Obama Attends Non-Existent Soccer Game?

Comments Off

Something is most definitely wrong. The President of the United States venturing out to a soccer game that didn’t exist in a high-crime area. The Politico is also reporting that Obama acknowledged the problem with his actions:

Prior to Obama’s bilateral meeting with Pakistan Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani, Obama told his colleague, “Apparently I caused quite a problem,” adding something about his secretary not telling the Secret Service, according to, ironically enough, the pool report.

What’s more concerning is that no one can confirm if the Secret Service even accompanied Obama on his adventure

Obamaspeak or the Rule of Law

Comments Off

We are protected from tyranny by our legal system. The The Constitution was written to guard those liberties, with the Supreme Court as its interpreter. The Court, however, has become increasingly political and routinely interprets laws consistent with whatever it views as “fair” or helpful to liberals. The cancerous growth of the Federal Government, in direct violation of the Constitution, is obvious to anyone with an IQ above room temperature.

We are now not merely disincentivizing economic energy but actively waging war on it. If 51 percent can vote themselves government lollipops from the other 49 percent, soon, 60 percent will be shaking down the remaining 40 percent, and then 70 percent will be sticking it to the remaining 30 percent. How low can it go?

Obama Fighting Israel’s Nuclear Program

Comments Off

The only reason the Dimona scientists’ visa requests were refused was their work at the reactor, sources in the military establishment said. None of the researchers has had any trouble with the law, in Israel or America.

A former Dimona worker told Maariv that the problems between Israel and America went beyond denied visas. The US has also created a “de-facto embargo” on equipment needed in the Dimona reactor, he said.

The refusal to sell Israel certain parts began after current US President Barack Obama took office, he said. When it comes to certain other pieces of equipment, he added, the US now permits sales only if Israeli officials explain exactly what the part will be used for.

“And yet, when it comes to those who manufacture nuclear terrorism, we hear a lenient approach, even though the entire world can see that Iran’s leaders are making a joke out of the US,” he said.

Congress Has Become an Institution of the Useless

Comments Off

It takes one’s breath away to see the blatant disregard so many of our senators and representatives have for the very Constitution they have sworn to defend. Take, for example, House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers, who made the following statement recently concerning the healthcare bill: “I love these members [of Congress]. They get up and say, ‘Read the bill!’ What good is reading the bill if it’s a thousand pages long and you don’t have two days and two lawyers to find out what it means after you read the bill?”

Campus Communism

Comments Off

You might think that these students would learn from history, not only the history of the “Go-Bike” program, but of communism in general. I’m thinking that colleges need to be offering more classes about the failures of the Soviet Union. Somehow I doubt that will happen anytime soon with the liberal leanings of our higher education system.

My generation needs an economic wake-up call. We have not been brought up in the ways of free enterprise. The average college student can’t even explain the advantages of trade. My college, like many colleges, requires me to take three science classes and zero economics or business classes.
