Who Gets the Blame for This Oil Spill?

Comments Off

May 22, 2009 — Who could forget the Exxon Valdez oil spill in 1989, that leaked 10.8 million gallons of oil into Alaska’s pristine coastal waters? That mistake cost Exxon a billion dollars in damages for the ecological disaster it caused and sparked one of the biggest cleanup operations in history. Imagine 80 times as much. That’s how much oil scientists at UC Santa Barbara and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute say is being leaked naturally along southern California coastlines by oil seeps. Science Daily and Live Science based on a press release from UC Santa Barbara about this “spectacular finding”. More….

A Biblical Framework

Comments Off

The Framework series is taught biblical event by biblical event and in contrast to the pagan viewpoint that was prevalent at the time of each event. Truths of God and His working are set into their original contexts in history to show they are as much a part of reality as any secular history or science. In an age when men despair trying to find sense in life, the Framework presents the inner coherence of God’s message to us. Each part of His historic conversation is linked to every other part and to every truth outside of the Bible.   More…

‘Missing Link’ Ida Is Just Media Hype

Comments Off

Scientists and media outlets around the world are praising “Ida,” the primate fossil hailed as the long-sought-after “missing link” in the human evolutionary theory. In a major public relations campaign, Ida was unveiled in New York on May 19. BBC1 will air a documentary the same day as the fossil’s UK unveiling on May 26, and Little, Brown has put out a book about the find. Even Google posted a special banner in Ida’s honor.

But despite the hype, a whirlwind of questions still surrounds the discovery. More…

Unrequited Love: Evangelicals and Jews

…. Evangelicals are dramatically more supportive of Israel than the nearly half of the six million American Jews who, according to The National Jewish Population Survey, identify themselves as reformed and/or secular Jews, many of whom arehostile toward both Israel and bible-based Judaism. They reject God in favor of “peoplehood.”As Dennis Prager, the columnist and radio talk host who describes himself as a bible-honoring Jew, notes, “their religion is rarely Judaism.” Instead, “it is every ‘ism’ of the Left. These include liberalism, socialism, feminism, Marxism, and environmentalism.” ….

Ancient Greece’s ‘global warming’

……Ancient Greece’s ‘global warming’

By Ben-Peter Terpstra

In Heaven + Earth (Global Warming: The Missing Science), Ian Plimer, Professor of Mining Geology at The University of Adelaide, Australia, asks us to embrace big-picture science views; for to recognize our limits is a sign of maturity. “Climate science lacks scientific discipline,” says the pro-amalgamation Professor, and in order to see more clearly we need to adopt an interdisciplinary approach. This requires humbleness.
In Chapter 2: History, Plimer travels back in time, thousands of years, in fact, to debunk Gore’s catastrophic global warming myths. I particularly like his research on the ancient Greeks. For Plato (427-347 BC) advanced the position that global warming occurs at regular intervals in Timaeus, and his famous pupil Aristotle (382-322 BC), referred to climate changes in Meteorologica.

Plimer’s research points are fascinating:

“Theophrastus (374-287 BC), in turn a student of Aristotle, followed the tradition with De ventis and observed that Crete’s mountains had previously produced fruit and grain whereas at the time he wrote, the winters were more severe and had more snow falls. In De causis plantarum, Theophrastus also noted that the Greek city of Larissus once had plentiful olive trees but falling temperatures killed them.”

Cloward-Priven Crisis Care

….The alliance between politicians, their supporters with agendas and the news media is an unholy union, one that does not need elaborate conspiracies to consummate. Hysteria and alarmism in the news is a business-driven matrimony and, in spite of proclamations of safeguarding the public’s right to know, it has little to do with knowing the truth…..

Carrie On the Tradition (of Queen Esther)

……… In truth, the Bible got the beauty pageant advice correct, along with everything else. The only such event covered in Scripture took place in Persia about 2400 years ago, with a real queenship offered as first prize. Mordechai, the wise Jewish refugee, told his niece, Esther, one thing. “Esther did not tell her nationality and her birthplace, because Mordechai instructed her not to tell.” Esther added a little wrinkle of her own: she was the only girl who did not try to tell the king’s beautician how she should be made up, instead graciously bowing to the expert……..

Liberal Taliban Issues Fatwa Against Miss California

……… Christians aren’t people who believe they are without sin; they’re people who know they’re sinners and are awestruck by God’s grace in sending his only Son to take the punishment they deserve. …….
